Colac south west primary school
Colac South West Primary School teaches our students how to build healthy, respectful relationships and helps them develop resilience and social and emotional wellbeing. Embedding a culture of respect across the whole school community, from staffrooms, to classrooms to social events is important. When our students have respectful relationships with their peers, parents and teachers there is a positive impact on academic outcomes, classroom behaviour and student wellbeing.
The ‘Respectful Relationships’ curriculum is taught from Prep through to Year 6 with different topics being covered each term. Core topics include Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving, Stress Management, Help Seeking, Gender Identity and Positive Gender Relations. Through learning about these topics students increase their self-awareness and management skills as well as their social awareness and management skills.
In health and physical education curriculum, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage safe and respectful relationships. In the personal and social capability curriculum, students learn to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others and establish and build a framework for positive relationships.
